Schools partnered with Kadoma in Zimbabwe

Barbara Follett attended a very enthusiastic meeting of teacher and pupil representatives from schools partnered with schools in Stevenage’s twin town in Zimbabwe, Kadoma, last Friday.

Mrs Follett said, “There were inspiring presentations from three different schools. All the pupils showed great knowledge and understanding. It is very encouraging to know that these young people are growing up caring about what is happening in the rest of the world.”

Three pupils from Woolenwick Infant School talked about music and craft work and demonstrated their skills on African drums.

Roebuck Primary explained where Zimbabwe is situated and explored the differences and similarities between our countries.  They also showed a quilt made by their partner school, Cam and Motor Primary. The pupils at Roebuck are making one to send in return.

Secondary school pupils from the Barnwell Schools followed up with their thoughts on the value of having a partner in a developing country.

Background
At present there are 17 schools in Stevenage partnered with one in Kadoma. But there are still more schools in Kadoma who would like a partner.

This is not a fund-raising exercise. It is about building-up a friendship between peer groups in different countries by exchanging school-work, stories, poems, jokes and much more.

The Kadoma Link Association received a three year grant from the Department for International Development to help sponsor this project so there is now a wide selection of display materials available and speakers for assemblies.

Please ask your local school if they are involved.
