Economic Secretary to the Treasury visits Stevenage

The Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Ed Balls MP, visited Stevenage on Friday 11th May and was the main speaker at a Business Breakfast hosted by local MP Barbara Follett at GlaxoSmithKline’s research centre.

Mr Balls met local business people and discussed the British economy and the steps the government is taking to encourage business in Britain. Other speakers at the Breakfast included the Senior Vice-President for Drug Discovery at GSK, Professor Patrick Vallance, who spoke about the company’s work and the Mayor of Stevenage, Councillor Simon Speller who spoke about the One Book for Stevenage Project.

Mr Balls stressed the need for business and the government to work with schools to ensre that students have the skills and ambition they need for the future so that Britain can continue to lead the world in innovation.
Mrs Follett said “It is good to have Ministers of the calibre of Ed Balls taking an interest in our town and its future”.
