Wear it Pink!

Barbara Follett is encouraging her constituents to ‘wear it pink’ this Friday to support the Breast Cancer Campaign as part of breast cancer awareness month.

Mrs Follett said, says “Every year over 13,000 people in the UK die from breast cancer and that is why I am supporting ‘wear it pink’ day. It’s great fun and the money raised will go towards valuable breast cancer research.”

She is also encouraging all Stevenage women aged fifty and above to attend regular breast screening.  Breakthrough Breast Cancer is concerned that although invites from the NHS Breast Screening Programme are sent to women aged fifty to seventy every three years some women over seventy are not aware that they still have the right to screening.

Mrs Follett said; “Worryingly, although a third of breast cancers diagnosed in the UK each year occur in women over seventy this is also the group of women who are least likely to check their breasts regularly and know what signs to look for”.

Notes to readers
By making a donation of just £2 you can dress as brightly as you like, as long as it’s pink. Your donation will allow Breast Cancer Campaign to continue researching the cure and help the one woman in nine in the UK that will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. It’s as simple as that. Last year a staggering £1.69 million was raised and this year’s target is £2.1 million.
