‘Think Twice’ before you buy….
Barbara Follett is giving her support to the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s ‘Think Twice’ campaign to stamp out the deadly trinket trade. She has pledged never to buy wildlife souvenirs when traveling abroad.
Mrs Follett was shocked to read a recent YouGov poll that revealed that over 600,000 Britons have returned from holidays abroad with wildlife souvenirs, including ivory, in the past five years.
She said, “it is a tragedy that threatened species, including elephants, rhinos, leopards and turtles, are being slaughtered to feed a growing trade that turns ivory, fur, claws, teeth and shells into holiday trinkets.” “I am proud to support IFAW’s campaign and I urge others to so the same.”
Whilst some souvenirs may look harmless they belie a bloody trade. As an animal lover Mrs Follett believes that wild creatures belong in the wild, not in our homes. She said, “I hope that future generations will be lucky enough to experience the thrill of seeing wildlife in the natural habitat”.
