It's a stitch-up

Barbara Follett took up her needle last weekend to help citizens of the town stitch together a large wall hanging in honour of its 60th Anniversary.

The Stevenage Patchwork Project has got local schools, volunteer groups, institutions and clubs to contribute tapestry pictures of the buildings, animals, trees, shields and logos of organizations which are in, or are part of the country’s oldest New Town.

Mrs Follett said “I am delighted to have played a small part in such an historic and innovative project.”

“I am particularly pleased that so many people and organizations have got involved.”

The tapestry will be on show for 5 weeks from 25 September at Springfield House Community Centre (24 High Street) for people to add their own stitch. For further information contact Jennifer Meek on 01438 880253

The first part of the tapestry will be finished in time for 11 November, the 60th Anniversary of Stevenage as a new town.
