Honouring our Veterans with a special day
A nationwide Veterans Day will be launched on Tuesday 27th June this year. This will also become an annual date in the UK diary.
I am delighted that we will have this opportunity to thank veterans for their contribution to our life. It will be a day to focus on veterans of all ages, and to celebrate and raise public awareness of their achievements. We should also use the day to celebrate the service given by those currently serving in the Armed Forces.
An inaugural event will be held in central London this year, linked with the commemorations to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the foundation of the Victoria Cross, and the 50th Anniversary of the Victoria Cross / George Cross Association.
I hope that we will be able to arrange an event to mark Veterans Day in Stevenage. If you have any suggestions for what you think we should do, please contact me.
