Fresh Look for Community Counselling Project
Stevenage MP Barbara Follett was impressed by the dedication and professionalism of the staff at Marriotts School’s new Counselling Centre when she officially opened their new, enlarged, premises on Friday 23rd September.
Marriotts, which has helped to pioneer in-school counselling services in Hertfordshire, outgrew the original space allocated to the project. So, over the summer a new set of rooms was renovated and refurbished with the help of the Stevenage based John Lewis Distribution Centre.
The Counselling service for Marriotts pupils, parents and staff deals with difficult issues such as bullying and self-harm. It is hoped that similar services can be introduced in other schools in Stevenage in the near future.
Mrs Follett said “I was delighted to open the new counselling facilities at Marriotts School. The larger space means that groups and meetings can now be accommodated. Thanks to the generosity of the staff at the John Lewis Distribution Centre the Centre is really welcoming and comfortable. But none of this would have been achieved without the dedication and enthusiasm of the Centre’s staff and its manager, Maddy Ratcliffe.”
