Urging constituents to Take It On!

Barbara Follett MP is supporting BBC Three Counties Radio’s “Taking It On” campaign this week. “Taking It On” aims to prepare people for living longer and working longer in the east of England – which already has a higher than average proportion of people aged 45 and over, and where the 50-plus age group is set to grow by 30 per cent in the next 20 years.

People will need a wider range of skills and education if they are to avoid age discrimination and a pension shortfall.  The campaign will be looking at these issues as well as fun activities such as travel and active grandparenting.

Mrs Follett is visiting BBC Three Counties Radio’s roadshow in the Town Square in Stevenage on Friday 1st July.  Regular broadcasts will be made from the roadshow throughout the day.  Listeners in Stevenage can tune into BBC Three Counties on 103.8FM.

Mrs Follett said “None of us is getting any younger so let’s get some advice on how to deal with the problems of ageing.  I really welcome BBC Three Counties Radio offering this service to the people of Stevenage”.

The roadshow is being run by the volunteer and social action broadcast charity CSV Media. It is being supported by the East of England Development Agency, the Department for Work and Pensions, Age Concern, Help the Aged, Jobcentre Plus and the National Institute for Adult Continuing Education (NIACE).
