A charitable silence
Stevenage MP Barbara Follett visited All Saints Primary School in Datchworth on Friday 28th January to watch them taking part in “The Big Hush”, Macmillan Cancer Relief’s fundraising event for schools and children’s groups.
“The Big Hush” is a sponsored silence event which enables children to raise money for people living with cancer. Last year, over 100,000 children across the UK raised over £380,000. The target this year is to raise £400,000.
At All Saints Primary School, the children and staff sat together in the hall and were silent for ten minutes. Joining them was John McNeil, Hertfordshire Community Fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Relief, who spoke to the children about the work of the charity.
All participating schools were entered into a free prize draw with the chance to win one of five sports equipment vouchers worth £1,000. These great prizes are being sponsored by Nationwide Building Society. In addition, every child received a free eraser, again supplied by Nationwide Building Society.
Mrs Follett said “Macmillan Cancer Relief does wonderful work and I am glad that All Saints School are giving them such support”.
