Second World War heroes should claim lottery awards
After ceremonies to commemorate Britain’s war dead, Barbara Follet MP urged Stevenage’s Second World War heroes to apply for awards funded by the National Lottery.
The Heroes Return scheme awards funding to veterans, wives, husbands, widows and carers to visit areas where veterans saw active service.
"Heroes Return is about the wider community recognising the great sacrifices made by men and women of Britain's wartime generation," Mrs Follett said.
"I am determined that every veteran in Stevenage and the surrounding villages who might be able to make use of a Heroes Return grant should apply for one.
"My message to war veterans and widows in Stevenage is clear: if you would like to revisit a place where you or your partner served during the war, please contact the Heroes Return hotline on 0845 4 10 20 30.
Relatives are also being asked by Mrs Follett to help identify and support veterans who might be interested in this Heroes Return.
The scheme is open for applications for funding until 31 March 2005 and trips can be taken through to the end of next year, the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
