Girlguiding Stevenage appoints first Ambassador

Stevenage MP Barbara Follett became the town’s first-ever Girlguiding Ambassador at a party to celebrate the Brownie's 90th Birthday Party at Lodge Farm Primary School on Sunday 4th July.

Driving rain did not damp the spirits of the two hundred and fifty Brownies who attended. They danced, played games, took part in craft activities and finished it all off with a special tea and camp fire singing.

Mrs Follett, who was both a Brownie and a Guide herself, must now promote Guiding wherever and whenever she can.  The Ambassador scheme was launched in 2000 and holders of the position include singer Louise, chef Brian Turner and Lord David Steel.

Division Commissioner, Pam Maloney, who helped Mrs Follett to cut the Brownie's 90th Birthday cake said “We look forward to seeing our new Guiding Ambassador for Stevenage at future events"

Mrs Follett said “ I loved being in the Brownie's and though I was not a very good Guide the things they taught me have proved invaluable in later life"
