Help for those with lung disease
Shortness of breath was the main item on the agenda when Stevenage MP Barbara Follett met with the Chairman of the North Herts Branch of Breathe Easy, Norman Gurney, last week.
Breathe Easy is a self-help group for people with chronic lung disease. They want sufferers to lead as active and fulfilling lives as possible. That is why they are keen to see a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Group set up at the Lister Hospital. Funding is a problem, but Breathe Easy have had talks with local health officials and believe that Stevenage residents will soon get the benefit of such a group.
About 35,000 people in Stevenage suffer from some form of long term damage to their lungs caused by ashma, bronchitis and emphysema.
Mrs Follett said “ Doctors say that, on average, one person in every family in Britain has some form of lung disease. That is why we have got to help groups like Breathe Easy help them. If you suffer from a chronic lung condition you may like to contact Breathe Easy on 01462 742185 or gonjurney@aol.com
