MP goes back to school

Stevenage MP Barbara Follett visited Barnwell School on MPs’ 'Back to School Day' on Friday 23rd April.  The aim of this annual event is to raise awareness of the 100 million children worldwide who do not have a school to go to.

Back to School Day is a major part of the Global Campaign for Education’s action week.  This coalition of charities, teachers’ unions and citizens’ groups from around the world tries to get the millions of children around the world who are lucky enough to go to school speaking up for those who do not.

At Barnwell School, Mrs Follett watched groups of pupils give presentations on some of the topics covered in their PSCHE (Personal, Social, Citizenship and Health Education) lessons.  All of them were extremely well thought out, most were imaginative and some were very moving too.

Mrs Follett said “Education is the single most important thing in the life of an individual and a country.  In Britain we are privileged to have it.  I was very glad to see the children of Stevenage fighting for the right for other, less fortunate, children to have it too”.
