£50k grant for housing charity

Barbara Follett MP was delighted to present Aldwyck Housing Charity with a cheque for £50,338 from the Community Fund on Friday 24th October.

The Charity will use the money to fund a Living Skills Development Worker for two years. The worker will assist young people aged 16 to 19 years who live in the Charity's supported housing schemes in Stevenage at Hutton House and in Ripon Road. They will assist young people in the transition from a supported housing environment to independent living.

It is intended that at least 60 young people will benefit from the scheme which will concentrate on assisting them to develop basic living skills such as using domestic appliances safely, cooking on a budget and addressing practical health and hygiene issues.

Jim Adams, Chairman of Aldwyck Housing Charity Committee said “….this is excellent news. The project will undoubtedly bring significant benefits to the young people concerned. But, just as importantly it will bring benefits to the wider community by improving the feeling of social inclusion among young people”.

Mrs Follett said “Aldwyck Housing Charity is doing great work. I am glad that the Community Fund recognises this”.
