Caring for the Carers

Stevenage MP Barbara Follett met a group of Stevenage Carers at the Oval Community Centre on Friday 17th October to discuss ways of improving care services in Stevenage.

There was also a great deal of concern expressed about the lack of rehabilitation services in the town. Mrs Follett and the Chair of the East and North Herts Primary Care Trust, Rachel Fox, answered questions and promised to do all they could to make the lives of carers easier in future.

A carer is someone who cares, unpaid, for a relative or friend who is unable to manage on their own because of illness, disability or frailty. They do not have to live with the person they care for, who may be an adult or a child.

Mrs Follett said: “Carers are the unsung heros and heroines of our society. They work all day and every day. They cannot let up. We have a duty to give them the help and rest they deserve.”
