MP gives support to newly opened Post Office
Stevenage MP Barbara Follett visited the newly-opened Benington Post Office on Friday 18 July to see how staff are reviving services in the village after a gap of eight years.
The new Post Office opened on Friday 11 July and restored a service which was originally lost in 1995 when the old Post Office ≠ based at the same address ≠ closed its doors. The new Post Office came about following a successful Rural Greenfield Application to Post Office Limited by sub-postmistress Pam Taylor and the local Parish Council.
Funding for the new branch has come from various sources including Mrs Taylor, Post Office Ltd and the Countryside Agency. The office provides local people with convenient access to a wide range of services such as pensions and benefits.
The branch will be open from 09:00 to 13:00 Monday to Friday. It offers a low level writing desk for wheelchair users and loop systems for the hard of hearing.
Mrs Follett said "I am both relieved and pleased that the people of Benington have regained this vital service".
