New Environment Minister visits Stevenage
The newly appointed Environment Minister, Elliot Morley MP, made one of his first stops in Stevenage on Thursday 10th July. He was the main speaker at a Business Breakfast hosted by local MP Barbara Follett at the Novotel in Stevenage.
Mr Morley met local business people and discussed the role of the environment in the economy. Other speakers at the Breakfast included Nick Parry, Director of Environment at Stevenage Borough Council, Steve Rose, Executive Director of Groundwork Hertfordshire and Sherma Batson and Catherine Campbell from the Stevenage Furniture Recycling Scheme.
Mr Morley stressed how important the role of business was in the environment. He said that every day, Britain produces enough waste to fill Trafalgar Square and that this was simply not sustainable.
Barbara Follett said "If we do not want our country blighted by incinerators and landfill sites, we have to learn to re-use and re-cycle, not throw away".
