Run for the children
On your marks, get set, go! So said Stevenage MP Barbara Follett when she started the "Run for the children" at Fairlands Valley Park on Saturday 14th June.
"Run for the children" is a series of races across the country aimed mainly at women and children ≠ although men are allowed with their partners or children. "Run for the children" re-introduces running and sport to women and aims to improve the overall health of the nation.
The races are approximately 3 kilometres long and competitors run, walk or stroll in about equal numbers. Most people raise money for children's charities, which adds to their personal satisfaction. A total of 9 races are taking place in 2003. This is the first time that a race has taken place in Stevenage, but it is hoped that it will become an annual event.
