It's nearly Christmas...

... well not quite, but the subject of Christmas was discussed at Lodge Farm Primary School in Stevenage on Friday 13th June when Barbara Follett MP launched her annual "Design a Christmas Card" competition.

Each year, a local school volunteers to hold the competition in which all of the children have the opportunity show off their artistic talent. The competition will be judged in September. Prizewinners get book tokens and the school receives an overall prize. The winning design will appear on the Christmas card that Mrs Follett and her husband Ken will be sending to their family and friends this year.

As well as launching the "Design a Christmas Card" competition, Mrs Follett opened the new school library. Her visit coincided with the school's Open Day, during which parents visited the school to view the facilities and the children's work.

Mrs Follett said "Lodge Farm is a happy, peaceful school. I have asked them to try and put some of this into the designs for my Christmas card".

Any schools wishing to volunteer for future competitions should write to Mrs Follett at the House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA. Volunteer schools are being sought for 2005 and beyond.
