Iraqi exiles say "thank you" to Britain for liberation
Stevenage MP Barbara Follett was delighted to receive a bouquet of flowers and a heartfelt 'thank you' from Iraqi exiles living in Stevenage on Friday.
Mr Aram Hadad was exiled from Iraq twenty four years ago. He was unable to attend his father's funeral thirteen years ago and has not seen his mother since she came to visit him in the UK over five years.
He watched the television pictures last week of the statue of Saddam Hussein being pulled down in central Baghdad and was so moved by the realization that Iraq was finally going to be liberated that he decided he had to say thank you formally.
He visited Mrs Follett in her Stevenage office on Friday and presented her with the bouquet and a message of thanks.
The message reads "Thank you Britain. Thank you Tony Blair for liberating our country. From the Iraqi exiles in Stevenage".
Mrs Follett said "After weeks of war it was a real pleasure to see someone looking as happy and relieved as Mr Hadad. Now we have to make sure that this country is reconstructed and restored as quickly as possible".
