MP attends school council

Almond Hill JMI School's Council Meeting had an extra member on Friday 7th March – local MP, Barbara Follett.

The twelve children of all ages who form the School Council questioned Mrs Follett on a wide range of issues including her role as an MP, Iraq, the wearing of cycle helmets, activities for children in Stevenage and whether or not she has met the Queen!

The School Council consists of two children from each class who are voted on by their classmates every term. They meet with the Headteacher once a week to discuss issues affecting their lives and those of their classmates. Recent topics included the closing of Rectory Lane, parking of cars outside the school and fundraising ideas.

Mrs Follett said "The questions the children asked were well thought out and very topical. I was very encouraged to meet such active and involved citizens".
