Computers for Schools
Stevenage MP Barbara Follett visited Tesco’s Broadwater store on Friday 18 October to present pupils and staff from local schools with computer equipment as part of Tesco’s "Computers for Schools" scheme.
Tesco "Computers for Schools" has delivered over £77 million worth of computer equipment in the eleven years that the scheme has been running. This equipment includes over 50,000 computers and over 468,000 items of computer related equipment. In 2002 alone, over 3,600 computers and over 74,000 additional items of equipment will be given to schools. More than two thirds of UK schools are registered to take part in the scheme.
The 2002 "Computers for Schools" scheme ran from 28 January until 7 April. Customers received one voucher for every £10 spent in a single transaction in all Tesco stores and petrol stations. Customers then donated their vouchers to schools, who have exchanged the vouchers for free computer equipment.
Mrs Follett said "Computers are a vital tool in today’s education system. Tesco is to be congratulated on this scheme."
