Help them to help others

Stevenage MP Barbara Follett attended the Stevenage Young Carers Annual Fun Day on Saturday 7th September at The Crown Pub, Aston End.

Stevenage Young Carers is a voluntary organisation which offers support to local children who care for a disabled or sick parent. They hold monthly group outings to a show, theme park, sports event etc. They offer one to one befriending for most of their group of carers – an adult volunteer takes the young carer out for a fun time of their choice about once a month.

The project has been providing a service for Stevenage young carers since march 1994 and is funded by donations, sponsorship and Herts County Council.

The Fun Day was organised to give the young carers a great day out but also to raise awareness of the project. Mrs Follett thoroughly enjoyed visiting the event and particularly liked taking part in the sack race!

If you are a young carer, an adult interested in becoming a Befriender or simply want more information, please contact Wyn Harris, Secretary of Stevenage Young Carers on (01438) 231175.
