Launch of new Credit Union

Stevenage MP Barbara Follett and her husband Ken recently joined Richard Howitt MEP, Peter Lilley MP, Co-operative Group Board member Simon Butler in Hitchin for the launch of the Black Squirrel Credit Union.

Credit Unions enable their members to share in its wealth and improve their standard of living. The Black Squirrel Credit Union already has almost 200 people from the North Herts, Knebworth and Codicote areas interested in saving with them.

Those who save for 10 weeks with the Credit Union are then able to borrow initially twice their savings and then, if they continue saving, up to three times their savings at the lowest sustainable rate of interest.

Anybody wishing to find out more about the Black Squirrel Credit Union should call (0845) 458 1137.

Mrs Follett said "Credit Unions help people to manage their finances and save for life’s milestones. Black Squirrel is a marvelous initiative and deserved the cross-party support it got at its launch."
