Women work together in a man's world

It's a man's world – but Hertfordshire women are banding together to even the odds.

Stevenage MP Barbara Follett joined local business and professional women to help launch HER$, the Hertfordshire Evolution Resource of Soroptimists, last Thursday (17 May 2001) at the Fielder Centre, Hatfield.

HER$ is a network for women who value the opportunity to meet other like-minded people in order to discuss current topics, or to help each other with relevant business issues. It is run by a management team made up of members who give their time on a voluntary basis and who intend to organise 12 events each year with high-profile speakers.

HER$ also has a very successful website that has recorded more than 2,000 hits and is funded on a non-profit making basis.

Mrs Follett, a Patron of HER$, has a deep interest in women's issues, working with organisations such as Labour Women's Network and Emily's List UK.

Speaking at the launch, Mrs Follett said: "Despite all the progress women have made in the last hundred years, it's still a man's world, but women working together can improve their chances."
