Age no barrier

Local MP Barbara Follett joined the from the Liberal Democrats and Conservative Party's Prospective Parliamentary Candidates last Friday (6 April 2001) at a special pre-election Forum organised by Stevenage Age Concern.

Advertised as 'open to the elderly', over fifty people attended to put questions to the three candidates. Following four pre-written questions about issues frequently raised by callers to Age Concern, the debate was opened to the floor. Issues discussed varied from the state of the NHS to the development of housing in Stevenage.

This was the first time the three candidates had met and animated debate followed.

Speaking of the work Age Concern in Stevenage does for older residents, Mrs Follett said, "I congratulate Age Concern on being the first organisation in Stevenage to bring all three of the candidates together. As an organisation they are always on the ball and anything but aged".
