Educating our way to a tolerant society
Barbara Follett MP joined members of the Stevenage branch of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association (UK) and guests at John Henry Newman School last Sunday for the very first Regional Founders Day to be held in Hertfordshire.
These events are designed to bring members of different faiths together to promote religious and cultural awareness and tolerance in our multicultural society. Dealing with the theme of education, the conference was attended by representatives from the Hindi, Jewish, Christian and Muslim communities who each spoke about both their faith and the important role education plays in ensuring understanding, tolerance and respect.
The speeches were followed by lively debate, in which members of the community were able to put questions to each of the speakers on a wide variety of subjects.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Follett said: "It was wonderful to see so many people of different faiths coming together to talk about their differences, and, most importantly, similarities".
