Building a better Barnwell
Stevenage MP Barbara Follett joined Head Richard Westergreen-Thorne last Friday to officially open the newly built and refurbished areas of Barnwell School.
The £1million capital programme has seen the school gain a new science lab, two new food technology rooms, a new textiles room, a refurbished library and four new humanities classrooms.
Barnwell is an exceptionally popular local school and has expanded rapidly during the last two years, taking in over 200 pupils.
The school hopes to achieve a record rise in those gaining GCSE A-C this year. In addition, work is about to start on a Sports Hall funded by the National Lottery. This will bring local schools, Stevenage Borough Council and the County Council together on a project that will be of enormous benefit to Barnwell and the community as a whole.
Commenting on Barnwell's success, Mrs Follett said: "Barnwell is a good school with a great atmosphere. I look forward to opening more new sections of it soon".
