Towards a greater awareness of cancer threat

Barbara Follett MP is promoting Male Cancer Awareness Month, which runs every June. Sponsored by the charity Everyman, Male Cancer Awareness Month is an ongoing campaign to increase both awareness and funding for vital research into prostate and testicular cancer.
Barbara Follett MP opens 50th Stevenage Day

Barbara Follett MP opened Stevenage Day, the town’s biggest social occasion, on Sunday 8th June. This year marked the 50th annual Stevenage Day and an estimated 30,000 people took advantage of the glorious sunshine to enjoy the many stalls, games and rides on offer.
Visiting classic ‘Forster Country'

Barbara Follett paid a visit to the childhood home of world famous novelist, E.M. Forster, in Stevenage on Saturday 7th June. There she met with the group of dedicated people who have been campaigning for the past twenty years for an official Forster Country Park.
Minister for Communities and Local Government visits

Prime Minister’s visit boosts Labour in Stevenage

Barbara Follett was proud to welcome the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, to our town on Tuesday 25th of March to launch Labour’s local election campaign. Following his visit, the Stevenage Labour Party secured victory in two local by-elections, giving the party a fantastic boost going into the local elections on May 1st.
Sign up for free national bus travel

Barbara Follett MP is urging everyone over the age of 60 or who are registered as disabled to sign up for a free bus pass. From April 1st they will be entitled to free, off-peak bus travel anywhere in the country.
Maternal Mortality

Barbara Follett recently attended two lunches at No 10 Downing Street hosted by the Prime Minister’s wife, Sarah Brown. These focused on the pressing issue of maternal mortality in the developing world. Mrs Follett said; “It disgraceful that across the world half a million mothers' lives will be lost within the next year. That is one death every minute.”

Visiting the re-opened B&Q

Barbara Follett visited the town’s new, giant, B&Q store on London Road on March 14th. She was given a guided tour of the shop’s 122,943 sq feet and met some of the 150 new members of staff.
'Just Listening' report released

As some of you may remember, I held a series of 'Just Listening' meetings in 2006. A report on the findings of these and similar meetings held across the country was to have been published by the Fabian Society. This arrangement fell through and I, like those of you who took part in the exercise have been wondering when, if ever, the report would appear. I am glad to say that it now has.
A budget for stability and opportunity

Barbara Follett welcomed the Chancellor’s Budget as a commitment to economic stability, opportunity and security for all. In Stevenage alone,12,410 families will gain from the increases in Child Benefit.

Supporting the student visit to Auschwitz

Barbara Follett has pledged her support for the Holocaust Educational Trust’s regional Lessons from Auschwitz Project which took students from the Nobel School in Stevenage to visit the Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau on Thursday 21st February.
