Barbara Follett is new Minister for the Arts
Barbara Follett has been appointed as the new Minister for Culture, Creative Industries & Tourism in Gordon Brown's government reshuffle. In the job she will help to promote British art and heritage and encourage tourism in the UK.
Ms Follett is moving from her role in the Government Equalities Office. She will, however, remain Minister for the East of England.
She said, "I am thrilled and honoured to have been made Minister for the Arts. As a nation, we are famed for our inventiveness and originality. I look forward to working with members of the UK’s cultural and creative communities to make the arts even more accessible and profitable for everyone".
Ms Follett also recognises that there is a huge amount of artistic talent in Stevenage, which is fostered by organizations such as Stevenage Arts Society and Stevenage Photographic Society. She is going to be writing to local schools and arts organizations to ask them if they would be willing to allow her to display a piece of their work in her Ministerial office so that she has a different exhibit from Stevenage each month.
