A greater awareness of cancer threat
Barbara Follett MP is promoting Male Cancer Awareness Month, which runs every June. Sponsored by the charity Everyman, Male Cancer Awareness Month is an ongoing campaign to increase both awareness and funding for vital research into prostate and testicular cancer.
Mrs Follett said, “Prostate cancer has overtaken lung cancer to become the most common cancer in men in the United Kingdom, with around 10,000 dying from it every year.
That is why I wholeheartedly support Everyman’s public awareness campaign. It is absolutely vital that people learn to recognise the tell-tale signs of these cancers, and understand the importance of treating them early. If these cancers are diagnosed early, neither need be life-threatening.”
To mark Male Cancer Awareness Month, Everyman is urging people to take part in The Big Stride, in which individuals can register with Everyman to undertake a sponsored walk anytime in June. Walks can be anything from a stroll in the park to a full-blown marathon and all proceeds go towards supporting testicular and prostate cancer research at the Everyman Centre in Sutton. The Everyman Centre is Europe’s first and only dedicated male cancer research centre
