Minister for Communities and Local Government visits
The Minister of State for Communities and Local Government, Mr John Healey MP, visited Stevenage on Wednesday 14th May and was the main speaker at local MP, Barbara Follett’s Listening to Business breakfast at North Hertfordshire College.
Mr Healey met local business people and discussed the opportunities and challenges facing the town and the region at large. Other speakers included the Chief Executive of the East of England Development Agency, Mr David Marlow, and Chair and co-founder of the One Book for Stevenage project, Mr Ken Follett.
Mr Healey spoke of the Government’s plans to ensure that Stevenage and the East of England continue to attract investment and jobs.
“The East of England has seen impressive economic growth over the past decade, and leading companies continue to choose to locate there. But like the rest of the country, the East will need to be prepared for economic challenges in the decade to come.
That is why we will give councils and Regional Development Agencies a greater role in supporting business growth in places like Stevenage, providing additional jobs and encouraging inward investment.
This will equip all the English regions, including the East, to face the challenges head on and make the most of future opportunities.”
Mrs Follett said “John Healey is one of the most caring and thoughtful Ministers in the Government. He is a friend of Stevenage and I look forward to working with him over the coming months and years to make sure that our town gets the support that it deserves”.
