Barbara Follett is Minister for the Arts

Barbara Follett has been appointed as the new Minster for the Arts in Gordon Brown's government reshuffle. In the job she will help to promote British art and heritage and encourage tourism in the UK. She will remain Minister for the East of England.
Labour's Bruce Jackson wins in Pin Green by-election

Bruce Jackson held Pin Green for Labour securing 54% of the vote and gaining a swing of 5.5% from the Conservatives to Labour since May’s local elections, held on 25 September 2008.

Bigger winter fuel allowance

Barbara Follett met with pensioners at her constituency office on Popple Way to raise awareness about the new improved Winter Fuel Allowance. The scheme helps older people meet their heating costs over the winter months.
Happy 60th birthday, NHS!

Barbara Follett visited the Lister Hospital on Coreys Mill Lane to wish the National Health Service a happy 60th birthday. Launched in 1948, the NHS was set up by the Labour Government of Clement Atlee to provide health care for everyone in the United Kingdom.
